WORLD ASSEMBLY SECURITY COUNCIL
COMMEND: LYRAS
DELEGATE IS VOTING: AGAINST ☒
FINAL RESULTS:
12,953 (86.4%) FOR
2,038 (13.6%) AGAINST
Overview
Commend Lyras seeks to grant a commendation to Lyras of Greater Dienstad for the, "Lyran Arms [Company being] one of the most successful [custom] warfare equipment manufacturers ... coining the term 'peace invasion' ... and philosophical propositions geared towards the mentorship of newer nations."
Author's Justification
The author of this resolution, Kostrorleauny of The Pacific, praises Lyras for their contributions as a fictional arms dealer, their promulgation of the Castlegate Declaration: 'a doctrine which the nation holds dear in its stout denunciation of slavery and its views of abhorrence towards the trade of human lives', and various other in-character acts of assistance or conflict with other nations or roleplay alliances.
My Decision
To be honest, I find myself marveling at Greater Dienstad's system of roleplay, but this is strictly from my own role, involvement, and interest in ours. Putting this aside, I find this resolution, along with other resolutions commending or condemning nations for in-character roleplay actions outside of R&D and game-implemented policy decisions, to be a waste of the Security Council's time. To simplify my stance, this resolution is akin to the Security Council commending me or someone else in our region's roleplay for events that take place therein. While we and those that keep up with it may find it extremely important, a vast majority of NationStates players have no idea what happens and are therefore unable to make an informed vote. Sure, they can do their best to read through the hundreds of in-character posts, but truly coming up to speed with all relevant events referenced in the resolution will take longer than the allotted time for voting. Although I privately commend Lyras and Greater Dienstad for their roleplay efforts, I cannot do so formerly for the aforementioned reasons.
I have cast my vote against this commendation.
