Restarting Candidacy Declarations in Elections

This is a pretty simple one. From the very beginning of our new Constitution and Legal Code, there has been a question about elections. That is, in the event someone runs unopposed, do they just automatically assume office? While the Legal Code mandates all offices be won by majority vote, if you have no other choice, it's impossible not to win a majority. The debate some of us had over this question led to another question, is there anything that can be done about having races with only one candidate? Perhaps, and the remedy I propose is including an option on all polls to restart the candidacy declaration period.

Now even if we don't succeed in getting other candidates, every office has an election and all offices will begin and end at the same time (unless a race has its declarations period restarted, of course). I suppose the main objection to this will be that it could potentially double the length of time it takes to elect an office with only one candidate, but I would submit to you that this doesn't matter, because this option will not be employed very often, if my experience in TNP tells me anything. You may have a scenario where we restart it, and then someone comes in but then someone else drops out or we still don't get another candidate. Well, at least we gave it a shot, and in that case, with no other candidate, the candidate would then assume office immediately, so you only lost 2 days. This is a safety valve but it's only good for one use, so that elections don't continue forever.
